(Note: My Mom&#8217;s poem is not here because\u00a0she watched me write these poems.)<\/div>\n<div>Cheetah<\/div>\n<div>(For Tempest)<\/div>\n<div>faster than a heartbeat,<\/div>\n<div>yet slower than light.<\/div>\n<div>hunters race behind her<\/div>\n<div>trying to catch her in near sight.<\/div>\n<div>while birds<\/div>\n<div>strike away from her<\/div>\n<div>shocked in full flight.<\/div>\n<div>wolf<\/div>\n<div>(For Dad)<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I make a stun<\/div>\n<div>to the eye<\/div>\n<div>without a sound<\/div>\n<div>I catch my prey<\/div>\n<div>to the eye<\/div>\n<div>I am a god<\/div>\n<div>I catch prey<\/div>\n<div>with no work needed<\/div>\n<div>I am a god<\/div>\n<div>of all the mountains<\/div>\n<div>with no work needed<\/div>\n<div>I create a den<\/div>\n<div>of all the mountains<\/div>\n<div>I favor mine<\/div>\n<div>I create a den<\/div>\n<div>for the forest<\/div>\n<div>I favor mine<\/div>\n<div>over the king\u2019s castle<\/div>\n<div>for the forest<\/div>\n<div>I am their king<\/div>\n<div>skunk<\/div>\n<div>(For Desmond)<\/div>\n<div>through the night<\/div>\n<div>two keen eyes pop out<\/div>\n<div>careful not to be seen<\/div>\n<div>he walks our yard<\/div>\n<div>hoping not to show his cards<\/div>\n<div>he pounces on his prey<\/div>\n<div>scared to pay the price of removal<\/div>\n<div>he stays hidden<\/div>\n<div>with his life on the line<\/div>\n<div>clouded leopard<\/div>\n<div>(For Racecar)<\/div>\n<div>I race to a tree, with my body full of fright<\/div>\n<div>with my body full of fright, I run from a bear<\/div>\n<div>I run from a bear, away from my cubs<\/div>\n<div>away from my cubs, I chase a hunter<\/div>\n<div>I chase a hunter, into his own trap<\/div>\n<div>into his own trap, I catch an antelope<\/div>\n<div>I catch an antelope, with my own four paws.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote these poems for my family&#8217;s Christmas presents in 2014.
